A Drop of Water

September 17, 2009

‘A Drop of Water’ is a rain barrel that makes saving water really easy by providing a watering can that is automatically filled when it rains. This way, the user doesn’t have to fill the can with our precious tap water, but uses ‘free’ rainwater instead to water the garden.
With the small tap at the bottom of the barrel the watering can can be refilled after using it.

Izola Social Housing

July 12, 2008

30 apartments of different sizes and structures, varying from studio flats to 3-bedroom apartments. The apartments are small, there are no structural elements inside the apartments, thus providing flexibility and the possibility of reorganising things.
The project proposed a veranda for each apartment, thus providing an outdoor space that is intimate, partly connected with the interior, shady and naturally ventilated.

A textile shade protects the balcony and apartment from prying eyes, yet due to its semi-transparency allows the owner to enjoy the views of the bay. Perforated side-panels allow summer breeze to ventilate the space. The strong colours create different atmospheres within the apartments. Boxes at the side of each balcony provide room for air-conditioning units.
The small rooms become visually bigger because the textile shade creates a perspective effect that connects part of the exterior with the interior.

Spaceless

June 2, 2008

The goal of having “Spaceless” is to use the condo balcony to maximize living space and to improve the building environment by enhancing the functionality of the balcony space. Great idea for places that has housing space crunch like in Hong Kong and Singapore where per square feet of space cost from SGD250 to SGD3000…

Bloomframe from Hofman Dujardin Architecten in Amsterdam is a two in one, balcony and window. The design gives “the possibility to use the surface of an apartment to the maximum.”

My question: Have balcony will have air, have window will suffocate? But very unique idea.
